In order to improve regional stability, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has underlined the significance of an agreement over the future of war-torn Gaza. Rubio spoke with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, who was joined by special Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz. The two reiterated their determination to see the truce in Gaza through to its implementation and to see to it that Hamas frees all hostages, including Americans.
They talked about how to further common interests in Syria, Lebanon, and the region as a whole, such as freedom of navigation and Red Sea security. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce did not bring up the US plan for Gaza, which has been met with significant opposition from Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries. Rubio also met with Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the Saudi foreign minister, although neither of them made any comments to reporters afterward.
