Trump describes Trudeau as a “loser”

US President Donald Trump criticized Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of ruining the country with radical left policies. Trump threatened to put a 25% tax on Canadian exports, implying that Canada would be better off as “the 51st state” of the United States. The war of words erupted during a hockey game between US and Canadian teams in Boston, during which Canadian supporters booed the US national anthem.

Trump reacted by saying Trudeau’s far left and Marxist policies had “destroyed” Canada. He further said that Trudeau would lose the next federal election if he ran again. Trudeau’s popularity rating has declined from 60% in 2015 to 22% in December 2024. Trump agreed to postpone tariffs on Canada for 30 days to allow for more discussions. Trudeau opposed Canada becoming the 51st state.
