Passenger’s iPhone stolen, flight crew suspended

A Garuda Indonesia flight has been in turmoil after a passenger’s iPhone went missing. Passenger Michael Tajendara was flying from Jakarta to Melbourne on June 6. He said he had left his phone in his seat back pocket but when he changed seats, he couldn’t find it where he had left it. When he couldn’t find it, Tajendara used Apple’s ‘Find My iPhone’ feature.

During the tracking, the iPhone’s signal was found near Melbourne’s Southbank Promenade. It is very close to the Makro Hotel. This was the same hotel where all the flight crew members were staying at the time. While tracking the iPhone’s location, the signal moved towards the Ivan Walker Bridge and then to the Yarra River.

This means that the phone was somewhere around the hotel and then thrown into the river. This pointed the needle of suspicion towards the flight crew. Michael Tajendara shared the entire incident in detail on Instagram. He also posted a screenshot of Find My iPhone, saying it was not just a phone issue but also a safety issue for passengers. He also urged people to share the story.

Given the seriousness of the issue, all crew members on the flight have been suspended with immediate effect, Garuda Indonesia’s commercial chief, Ade R. Susardi, said.

They will not be allowed to return to work until the full truth about the incident is revealed, he said. An airline spokesperson said they were in constant contact with the passenger and were providing him with all possible assistance. The airline has also formally apologized for the incident.
