Bagmati Province Assembly Speaker Bhawan Kumar Pathak has submitted his resignation. Pathak, who announced his resignation on social media on 24 Bhadra after the Genji movement intensified, submitted his resignation letter to Deputy Speaker Apsara Chapagain on Wednesday. Although he had announced his resignation earlier, he mentioned in the letter that it was not convenient to complete the legal process.
‘I have resigned from the post of Bagmati Province Assembly Speaker in accordance with the Constitution of Nepal and the Provincial Assembly Rules 2074 BS,’ the letter states. He has said that it is inappropriate to continue holding the post against the wishes of the Nepali people and the sentiments of the young generation when the nation is crying.
After the members of the House of Representatives and the Provincial Assembly elected by the RPP resigned en masse on 24 Bhadra, Pathak also announced his resignation from the post of Speaker on social media Facebook. Pathak became the Bagmati Province Assembly Speaker from the RPP.
He was in Kathmandu on 24 Bhadra when the Genji movement intensified. During the protests, both the new and old buildings of the Bagmati Provincial Assembly, as well as electrical equipment, were destroyed by vandalism and arson.
