National Assembly member election: Over 95 percent voter turnout

The Election Commission has stated that the voting for the National Assembly members held today was conducted in an encouraging and peaceful manner. The voting was held from 9 am to 3 pm in all seven provinces, with 95.68 percent of the votes cast, informed the Commission’s spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai.

The election was held today for the 18 members who will be vacant from the upcoming Falgun 20. According to the details received by the Commission from the offices of the election officers, 345 votes were cast in Koshi Province out of a total of 360 voters. In Madhes Province, 341 out of 364 votes were cast, in Bagmati Province 318 out of 338, in Gandaki 223 out of 228 votes were cast, in Lumbini 286 out of 299, in Karnali 191 out of 198 and in Sudurpaschim 220 out of 224 votes were cast, informed the spokesperson Bhattarai.

The Commission has stated that out of a total of 1,924 votes were cast in all seven provinces, 1,924 votes were cast. The Commission has thanked all political parties, candidates and stakeholders who helped in conducting the voting in a peaceful and enthusiastic manner. The Commission has stated that all the ballot boxes will be collected and the votes will be counted at the office of the concerned election officer.

Out of the 18 posts that will be vacant from February 20, one post was elected unopposed in Koshi Province from Khas Arya. The candidate there, Sunil Bahadur Thapa of the Nepali Congress, was elected unopposed. Voting for the remaining 17 posts was held from 9 am to 3 pm at designated polling stations and polling stations in the capitals of all seven provinces.
