Rasty Swatantra Party (RSP) Vice President DP Aryal has been elected Speaker of the House of Representatives unopposed. Aryal was the sole candidate for Speaker. Earlier, the CPN-UML had prepared to field a candidate. However, after the UML did not field a candidate, Aryal of the RSWP was elected unopposed.
Spokesperson of the Federal Parliament Secretariat Ekram Giri said that Aryal of the RSWP is the sole candidate for Speaker. The secretariat had set the time for registration of candidatures from 11 am to 2 pm today. He said, “The time was fixed from 11 am to 2 pm for the proposal to be elected as Speaker. Only one proposal has been registered during this time.”
Aryal had registered his nomination for Speaker on Friday. A team including RSP President Rabi Lamichhane had reached the Parliament Secretariat to register the nomination. Proposer Rabi Lamichhane and supporters Swarnim Wagle, Sunil Lamsal and Sobita Gautam had registered a proposal to elect Aryal as the Speaker.
Since the RSP has 182 seats in the 275-member House of Representatives, he was certain to be elected as the Speaker. He will be declared elected unopposed as the Speaker in the House of Representatives sitting on Sunday.
