Trishuli (Nuwakot), Sept 2: Schools, affected by flood in Trishuli River following Bhotekoshi flash flood, have been closed for indefinite period in Nuwakot district. All the schools located in most flood hit Bidur municipality as well as Kispang rural municipality have remained closed while there is uncertainty to resume teaching learning activities in schools in other flood-hit areas. Mayor of Bidur municipality, Rajan Shrestha, shared that there is no preparation to open schools immediately as students, teachers and parents are missing, school structures, roads and bridges have been damaged due to flood. The schools would be reopened only if daily life of the people become easier some extent and people could easily cross the river. Education Section Chief of the municipality, Naba Raj Sapkota, mentioned that the scale of damage caused by flood became massive after being failed to imagine its impact though information about the flood was received. However, some schools managed to avert huge incident by exercising high-level cautions, he opined. “The current situation and daily life is not normal. We will make a plan to conduct teaching learning activities through alternative medium after some times,” he stressed. Out of 83 schools in Bidur municipality, one dozen of schools have been directly affected. As per the data of Education Section, four school buildings suffered fully damages. As per preliminary data prepared by Education Development and Coordination Unit, Nuwakot, there is no situation to run schools in previous places as the flood has damaged all structures of Tribhuvan Trishuli Secondary School, Ramchandra Basic School, Chetana Basic School and Trishuli Community Boarding School. Similarly, three blocks and hostel building of Uttargaya English Boarding School have been completely damaged. Difficulties have surfaced in running teaching learning activities as the hostel of Chandeshwori Secondary School, where visually impaired students were residing, as well as Sahid Jagat Prakash Jung Shah Sanskrit Secondary School and Pioneer English Boarding areas have been damaged. A school bus of Ramchandra Basic School and two buses of Uttargaya English Boarding School have been washed away by flood. Likewise, though the flood has not caused damages to school buildings at Kispang rural municipalities, two school buildings have been set up as holding centres and one school at Belkotgadhi. Shila Devi Secondary School located at Belkotgadhi-7 and Mahadev Secondary School at Belkotgadhi-5 have also been affected by flood.
