Shehbaz Sharif, head of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, is expected to become Pakistan’s Prime Minister for the second time, opposing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf nominee Omar Ayub Khan in the National Assembly election. Both candidates have submitted their candidacy papers, with Sharif submitting eight and Khan submitting four. Khan accused Sharif of being ‘given’ a parliamentary seat by manipulating Form-47, but his claim was denied. The newly formed coalition is confident in retaining the position of Prime Minister of Pakistan, but PTI MPs who were elected independently and then joined the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) are anticipated to continue their protest in the House, calling the February 8 elections unfair.
