To prevent child marriage, Aathbiskot Municipality-3 in Rukum Paschim has ordered that wedding invitation cards include the bridegroom’s and bride’s birth dates. Kesharman BK, the ward chair, indicated that the measure was adopted to avoid underage marriage. Additionally, alcohol and smoke consumption at marriage functions has been restricted. The ward has created a mechanism in which relevant parties must agree not to use these substances. The ward successfully blocked a minor couple’s wedding and threatened legal action if restrictions were broken. Alcohol and tobacco items have been prohibited in the ward for five years.
