The newly elected president of Slovakia, Peter Pellegrini, was previously the speaker of the National Council. Pellegrini stated that the recent killing of Prime Minister Robert Fico is the final blow to uncertainty in response to the difficult times. In order to take Slovakia closer to a brighter future, he promised to look for methods to bring people together. Early in April, Pellegrini emerged victorious in the presidential contest.
