German experts condemn Chinese tariffs imposed by the EU

The European Union’s decision to impose more duties on Chinese battery electric vehicles could trigger a trade war on a worldwide scale and delay Europe’s transition to electric vehicles. German business leaders contend that these policies impede free trade and raise the possibility of trade disputes. Citing its goals for 2050 carbon neutrality, the German Federal Association for Economic Development and Foreign Trade condemns the EU’s tariff decision. By 2030, Germany wants to have 15 million all electric vehicles on the road; yet, the shift is hampered by expensive and scarce options. Europe should build its own advantageous site circumstances and work toward free markets and competition, according to Volker Treier, head of international trade at the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
