CEO of Telegram Durov calls his arrest’misguided’

CEO and inventor of Telegram Pavel Durov has criticized French authorities for detaining him due to claims that the chat app’s moderation is insufficient. Durov rejects the idea that Telegram is an “anarchic paradise” and views the idea that he should be held accountable for offenses done by other people as “surprising” and “misguided.” He justified Telegram’s capacity to remove millions of offensive postings and channels every day. Opponents claim that Telegram’s capacity to support groups of up to 200,000 people facilitates the sharing of extremist content by users and the dissemination of false information. Durov acknowledges that the site has become more vulnerable to misuse by criminals due to an “abrupt increase” in users, but he still plans to make improvements.
