A coalition led by the US and the UK strikes Yemen

Following a rise in marine attacks in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, a coalition led by the United States and the United Kingdom launched another wave of airstrikes against the Houthis in Yemen. Since November of last year, the Houthis, a militant organization based in Yemen, have been attacking naval and commercial vessels while claiming to support Palestinians in the Israel-Hamas war. The coalition, which included Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands, and New Zealand, targeted 18 targets in eight different Yemeni areas. The Houthis launched over 45 attacks, prompting an international response. The US Defense Department issued a declaration to protect life and business on one of the world’s most important waterways.
