The next phase of the truce in Gaza will be discussed by Israel’s security cabinet on February 17, 2025, following a unified front against Hamas and Iran by Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and US diplomat Marco Rubio. Rubio stressed the need to eradicate Hamas because it cannot function as a government or military force. According to Netanyahu, “the gates of hell will be opened” if hostages held by terrorists in Gaza are not released, and the two allies have a similar plan. Although the US is receptive to other Arab nations’ offers, Rubio thinks the Trump plan is the only viable option. Doha may host talks this week on a second phase of the ceasefire.
