At his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, President-elect Donald Trump appeared alongside Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Meloni followed President Javier Milei of Argentina, who, following Trump’s election victory, became the first global leader to visit with him at Mar-a-Lago. Florida was also visited by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
A documentary about the challenges conservative lawyers have in the judicial system was screened for Trump. He attended the screening alongside Meloni, Florida Senator Marco Rubio, Florida Representative Mike Waltz, Trump’s national security advisor, Scott Bessent, his nominee to lead the Treasury Department, and his choice for secretary of state for the new government, Meloni. Tensions between Italy and Iran have escalated since Iranian authorities imprisoned Italian journalist Cecilia Sala, which prompted Meloni’s visit. Pope Francis and Meloni will meet with President Joe Biden in Rome.
