Finance Minister Varshman Pun has begun presenting the government’s annual budget for fiscal year 2081/82 at the federal parliament’s joint session. The conference was postponed because opposition parties, notably the Nepali Congress, blocked the session and demanded the creation of a parliamentary inquiry committee. The standoff in parliament will be resolved if the major parties agree on the committee’s composition and scope of operation. Following the combined meeting, both houses will have separate meetings.
