Canada and China also imposed additional tariffs on the US

The additional tariffs imposed by the administration of US President Donald Trump on goods coming from Canada, Mexico and China have come into effect. Starting March 4, 25 percent additional tariffs will be imposed on goods entering the US from Canada and Mexico, while a new 10 percent tax has also been introduced on goods coming from China.

In retaliation for the US move, Canada has announced that it will impose an additional 25 percent tariff on goods worth $155 billion from the US.

Meanwhile, China has also said that it will impose additional tariffs of 10 to 15 percent on some agricultural products coming from the US. China has targeted several US companies in the aviation, defense and technology sectors, putting them on a list of companies that cannot be trusted and imposing export restrictions on them.

Mexico is also expected to announce tariffs in retaliation for the additional tariffs later today. Its President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Monday that her country had prepared a contingency plan.
