The establishment of an intermodal cargo port at the Port of Baku in Alat, Kazakhstan, has been agreed upon by China, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan. The port will have a container yard with more than 1,000 containers, a 5,000-square-meter indoor warehousing complex, and a multipurpose cargo yard. At the Port of Baku in Alat, Azerbaijan supplied a land parcel, operational berths, and terminal capacity. Connecting Europe and Asia, the Port of Baku is a vital transportation and logistical center in Eurasia. It received the European Sea Ports Organization’s “Eco Ports” designation in 2019 and was re-certified in 2021. It became a member of the UN Global Compact in 2022. By increasing container train traffic on the China-Europe-China line, the initiative seeks to lower transshipment periods, delivery times, and transportation expenses.
