Deputy Speaker Indira Rana of the House of Representatives has underlined the significance of timely legislation to ensure that journalism, the state’s fourth arm, is capable, robust, professional, and accountable. He stressed the constitution’s significance in safeguarding press freedom and urged on people’s representatives to protect it during the legislative process.
Rana highlighted that the constitutional right to freedom of information and expression cannot be infringed, even as technology advances. He proposed that a law address Nepal’s international commitments, the country’s environment, and technological growth.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) human rights program manager, Rogir Huizenga, stressed the vital problem of free expression and committed to encourage Nepal’s freedom of expression law to conform according to international norms.
