Due to the building of a taxiway parallel to the runway, Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal will be closed for ten hours every day starting on Kartik 23. To expand the airport’s runway capacity, the Nepalese Civil Aviation Authority has indicated that it would be working in Kartik for almost five months. All airline service providers have accepted the effort, which is solely commercial in nature. Because there are fewer flights in the winter, the airport’s operating capacity is being enhanced. According to estimates, the effort will result in a loss of almost $2 billion in revenue for the current fiscal year.
By eliminating the need to go from the runway to the apron, the parallel taxiway will increase the airport’s operating capacity by 25%. As a result of the refurbishment, there will be 30% fewer domestic and international flights. Bhairahawa International Airport already has inexpensive tickets set up by the government, and around three foreign airlines have agreed to run flights there.
