Kathmandu, Sept 1: Considering the health safety of the women and girls displaced after the devastative flash floods in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river corridors, initiative has been launched to provide health services with dignity kit and psychosocial counseling. In collaboration with the UNFPA, the volunteers of Nepal Red Cross Society has begun distributing essential health and safety materials to women and girls affected by the August 26 disaster. Two mobile health units have been managed to provide the supports relating to maternal, newborn and other essential sexual and reproductive health services. Mobilizing reproductive health supplies and strengthening emergency obstetric referral, including last-mile transport solutions for isolated communities, strengthening GBV prevention, response and referral services, including psychosocial and tele-counselling support are given emphasis by these facilities. Similarly, mental health and psychosocial support for affected communities and frontline responders are being catered to address particular needs of older persons, adolescent girls, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups. Such services are also facilitated by community and youth networks. UNFPA shared information that as many as 2,000 dignity kits, 400 kishori kits and 300 tarpaulin sheets were provided to the women and girls staying in various shelters in Nuwakot district. Two health camps were also organized. Nepal Red Cross informed RSS that it was planning to distribute dignity kits to the women and girls affected by the floods in Dhading and Rasuwa districts as well. —-
