Iraqi president laments the assassination of a Sadr activist

Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid condemned on Monday the kidnapping and murder of a prominent Shia activist close to cleric Muqtada al-Sadr. He called the act a threat to security, stability, and peaceful coexistence.
Rashid issued a statement claiming that the killing of popular blogger Aysir al-Khafaji was a violation of the law and ordering security personnel to enhance security measures to protect civilians. He has also asked the parties involved to examine the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Al-Khafaji was discovered Baghdad. On Sunday evening, a group abducted him near his home, according to an Interior Ministry source who spoke to Xinhua on the condition of anonymity.
