Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran, has advised his administration not to engage in talks with the United States, claiming that doing so will not resolve the issues facing the nation. Khamenei cautioned that such a move would be “unwise” and “not intelligent,” pointing to the US’s prior destruction of a nuclear agreement in 2015. Additionally, he issued a warning that if the United States took any action against Iran, his nation would respond. Following his demand for a “verified nuclear peace agreement” with Iran and his insistence that Tehran cannot possess a nuclear weapon, US President Donald Trump issued the warning.
Citing worries over Iran’s purported development of nuclear weapons, Trump has revived his “maximum pressure” campaign against the nation. Trump’s government imposed strict sanctions on Iran during his first term, which prompted Khamenei to issue the warning.
