New PM: Canada will prevail in the trade battle with the US

Mark Carney, Canada’s newly elected prime minister, has vowed to fight and win the trade war with the United States and threatened to impose retaliatory tariffs until “Americans show us respect.” When US President Donald Trump slapped 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico and 10% taxes on Chinese goods in February, tensions increased. In retaliation, Ottawa levied $30 billion in tariffs on US goods, with another $125 billion in charges scheduled for the following month. Carney said that Trump was “attacking Canadian families” and that tariffs would remain in place until Americans behaved with dignity.
