North Korea has warned against the US and South Korea’s large-scale military exercises, claiming that it will pay a “high price” and urging both countries to halt the “stimulated maneuvers.” Pyongyang labeled South Korea its “main enemy” this year, isolating reunification and access agencies. Both states have announced their annual spring military exercises, which will involve 48 field exercises, missile interception drills, bomb blasts, airstrikes, and direct attacks. North Korea’s military ministry has urged Seoul and Washington to avoid reckless and provocative actions, citing security concerns as a major issue.
North Korea has long criticized joint military exercises as a rehearsal for an attack, while South Korea claims its military is fully prepared for North Korea’s provocations and will respond forcefully in accordance with the principle of final action if North Korea engages in provocations under the guise of joint military exercises.
