Prime Minister Balendra Shah Balen has announced the repeal of the 3 percent tax imposed on education and health. On Tuesday afternoon, Prime Minister Shah informed through social media that the 3 percent parity tax imposed on private education and health sectors would cause additional expenses and disappointment to the common man if implemented as it is now. After consulting Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle, it was decided not to implement the parity fee for the time being.
“This government is a people-oriented government formed with the trust and expectations of the people. Our main objective is to ensure good governance and provide a quality life to all citizens,” the Prime Minister said while informing about the decision.
“The objective of introducing the 3 percent parity tax was to provide good education and health services to citizens in remote and backward areas, support Dalit, marginalized and underprivileged children, expand health insurance and raise the necessary financial resources for that. In addition, the goal was to make the economy more systematic by expanding the scope of the tax,” the Prime Minister said. “However, the reaction to the parity tax seen at the citizen level has drawn the serious attention of the government. Our commitment to move forward by listening to the demands of the citizens and to build an equitable society is unwavering and clear. All decisions of the government have been and will be made with the interests of the citizens in mind. If the citizens are dissatisfied with any decision, the government will always be ready to correct and amend it.’
Prime Minister Shah has said that the government is committed to implementing the policy of providing 10 percent beds in private hospitals and 10 percent seats in private campuses and universities in a transparent and fair manner with the aim of ensuring that the poor and needy citizens can access quality education and health services.
