To honor Republic Day, the Nepalese government established the ‘Republic Day Main Celebration Committee’, led by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’. The committee will be made up of Deputy Prime Ministers, Ministers, the Chief of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, the Chief Secretary of the Government of Nepal, the Commander-in-Chief of the General Staff, the Chief of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, the Secretary of the Government of Nepal, special category gazetted officers, the Inspector General of Nepal Police, the Inspector General of the Armed Police Force, and the Director of the National Investigation Department. The government has chosen to celebrate Diwali celebrations for three days on May 27, 28, and 29 in Nepali embassies and posts overseas. The committee will also host programs at the federal government, central level, Nepalese embassies overseas, diplomatic posts, consulates, state capitals, district, and local levels.
