Following a meeting in Muscat between senior Oman officials and Foreign Secretary Seva Lamsal, Nepal has requested that the Oman government open an embassy in Kathmandu. After diplomatic ties were established in 1977, the meeting discussed a wide range of topics, including commerce, investment, economic cooperation, agriculture, energy, tourism, labour, foreign employment, culture, education, and direct aviation linkages. Enhancing interpersonal relationships and using financial gains for mutual gain were mutually agreed upon by both sides.
In regard to the King of Oman’s “2040 vision and strategy,” Foreign Secretary Lamsal expressed gratitude to Oman for giving Nepali citizens job opportunities and advocated for more. She also advocated for financial mobilisation in industries including green hydrogen, hydropower, and tourism. Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Isa Alharthi, the head of the Omani delegation, reaffirmed Oman’s commitment to cooperating with Nepal in areas of mutual agreement and resolving outstanding difficulties. The bilateral consultation mechanism’s next meeting is scheduled to take place in Kathmandu at a time that works for both sides.
