The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB), at the center of a controversial attempt to block government financing for humanitarian programs, has confirmed Russell Vought as its director. Despite fierce opposition from Democrats, including Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, Vought was confirmed by a vote of 53-47. During the first administration of President Donald Trump, he performed the same role and issued a document prohibiting the use of public monies for anti-racism training. Citing plaintiffs who would suffer “irreparable harm” if the spending freeze went into place, a US district court stopped it last week and prolonged it on Monday.
