The Supreme Court has refused to grant an interim order on the writ petition filed by Resham Lal Chaudhary, patron of the Civil Liberation Party of Nepal, demanding that he be allowed to contest in the House of Representatives elections.
A single bench of Justice Bal Krishna Dhakal today refused to grant an interim order as per the demand, issuing a show-cause order. With the court’s order, Chaudhary will not be able to contest in the upcoming House of Representatives member elections. The court has called for a hearing on the dispute on Magh 15.
A writ petition was filed in the Supreme Court on Magh 23 against the Election Commission’s decision to reject the candidacy of Chaudhary, patron of the party. The commission had decided to reject Chaudhary’s candidacy, stating that the record of his crimes and imprisonment would remain. He had filed his candidacy from Kailali Constituency No. 1.
