Former King Gyanendra Shah has been warned by Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak that monarchy is not an alternative to a republic. He warned people not to think that a king who was overthrown by agitation and revolution will return when democracy is restored. Lekhak underlined that democracy is a system in which all the liberties of the same nation are enjoyed by even expelled monarchs. Additionally, he cautioned the previous monarch not to see this as a sign of democracy’s weakness. Lekhak stated that security measures had been strengthened in response to a journalist’s inquiry over Gyanendra’s return to Kathmandu.
