Nepal has initiated the ‘Peace Effort Four’ international exercise, which will feature 1,125 soldiers from 19 countries active in global peace operations. The exercise, which is backed by the US Global Peace Operation Initiative, the Nepali Army, and the American Army, aims to increase peacekeeping forces’ professional efficiency and mutual coordination capacity. The activity will take place at Birendra Peace Work Training Centre Panchkhaal until February 21st. Since 2000, the Nepali Army has played an important role in peacekeeping efforts, with 167,000 Nepalese peacekeepers serving in 44 deployments. The government has pledged to deploy up to 10,000 trained peacekeepers if the United Nations requests them. The United Nations has also sent the United Nations Mission in Nepal to address the ten-year military conflict there in Kathmandu.
