The corruption prosecution against New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been dropped by federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York, after a direction from the US Justice Department. In exchange for his influence, Adams is accused of taking gifts and illicit campaign contributions from Turkish businesspeople. In September, he entered a not guilty plea to five allegations regarding campaign funding crimes, conspiracy, and bribery. There should be no further inquiry, however the case may be reexamined following the mayoral election in November 2025. Adams and Trump have recently become closer, which some claim violates local sanctuary city regulations.
