The Nepal Communist Party (UML) has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court demanding the restoration of the House of Representatives. On behalf of the dissolved House of Representatives, UML’s parliamentary party chief whip Mahesh Bartaula and whip Sunita Baral jointly filed the writ petition in the Supreme Court today. The writ petition has demanded the annulment of Prime Minister Sushila Karki’s appointment, the dissolution of the House of Representatives, and all subsequent decisions and appointments.
The writ petition has urged that Karki’s appointment be declared prima facie unconstitutional, saying that the appointment of a person who is not a member of the House of Representatives, has not received the support of any party, and was against Articles 76 and 132 (2) of the Constitution, Chief Whip Bartaula said.
It has also demanded the annulment of the appointment decision, oath and all subsequent government activities and decisions by the President.
