Foreign Minister Israel Katz has asked that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres step down from his position. Katz added that the UN needed to replace Guterres because he was accountable for the conduct of UNRWA employees. He claimed UNRWA, which oversees medical facilities, educational programs, and relief efforts in refugee camps, is a contributing factor in the issue and has to be replaced by a new organization that involves more Arab states. Countries were encouraged by Guterres not to decrease UNRWA financing in the same way as the US, Germany, and Italy. The organization provides relief to almost 2 million Palestinian citizens living in Gaza.
