The Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Socialists) has demanded the resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, following an emergency meeting held by the party’s central secretariat. The party’s spokesperson, Prakash Jwala, urged the government to address the demands of the ‘Genji’ generation youth and open social media.
The meeting condemned the government’s decision to close social media and restrict the right to speak and ask questions, which is against freedom of expression. The party expressed solidarity with the movement and supported its legitimate demands, stating that the dissatisfaction and anger generated by the closure of social media have turned into a movement against corruption and misrule. The party expressed condolences to the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery and immediate treatment.
The Unified Socialists also condemned the government’s repression and called for dialogue to resolve the issue. They appealed to the protesting youth not to misuse the dignity of the movement and public support it has received by inciting it.
