Dharan (Sunsari), May 15: Forty-eight helpless people have been rescued from Koshi Province under the ‘Mechi–Mahakali National Rescue Journey’ jointly conducted by Manavsewa Ashram and Ani Choeying Drolma Foundation. Among those rescued include 36 men and 12 women. Nine helpless people, including four men and five women, were rescued from Jhapa, seven people including six men and one woman were rescued from Morang and 32 people, including 26 men and six women, were rescued from various places in Sunsari, according to Ramji Adhikari, the central president of the Manavsewa Ashram. He said that the rescued helpless street-dwellers were sent to various branches of the Manavsewa Ashram for safe protection. Among them, 15 were placed in the Jhapa branch, 12 in the Biratnagar branch, and 21 in the Dharan branch. Adhikari said that with the approaching monsoon, efforts have been intensified to rescue the needy people leading difficult lives on the streets, temple premises, public places and under the open sky. He added that the rescued people have been provided with shelter, food, medical care, mental and emotional support as well as possible family reunification. The Mechi–Mahakali National Rescue Journey was formally launched from the Mechi Bridge at Kakrbhitta, Jhapa on May 12. The rescue mission has been completed in Koshi Province after running for three days and it will be conducted in Madhesh Province from today (Friday). The rescue operation will continue until June 5, covering the remaining provinces.
