Prisoner found dead, Rajviraj

A prisoner who was incarcerated in Rajviraj Jail for pre-trial on the charge of rape has been found dead 19-year-old Devendra Mandal of Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality-6 of Saptari, who was incarcerated in Rajviraj Jail, was found dead today, said Sadananda Das, Acting Administrator of the Jail. According to him, Mandal’s body was found hanging in the toilet inside the prison this morning. On the night of July 13th, Mandal was detained in jail for pre-trial detention since August 11th on charges of kidnapping and raping a 15-year-old girl. The victim’s parents filed a complaint at the district police office, Saptari, saying that the girl was forcibly dragged from the house and taken five hundred meters to the Dill in the east of Pokhari. The victim’s father said that after Devendra Mandal, 23 years old, Shyamsundar Mandal, 23 years old, and Jasodakumari Mandal, 20 years old, of Hanumannagar Kankalini-6 held her hands and feet, Devendra put vermilion on the girl’s neck. The district police office arrested Mandal on July 17. A charge sheet was filed in the Saptari District Court on August 10 because a complaint of rape was registered at the police office on July 18. District Judge Hark Bahadur Chhetri’s bench had ordered that Mandal be kept in Rajviraj Jail from 11th August. Acting Jail Administrator Das said that after learning about the incident of Mandal who committed suicide by hanging himself in the trap, the Jail Administration informed the family. He informed that the body will be released after the arrival of the family members.
