A 102-year-old woman casts her vote in the Tamil Nadu

The Tamil Nadu Lok Sabha Election 2024 took place in all 39 constituencies in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, with a voter turnout of 63.2%. An elderly woman, Chinnammal, stood out during the voting process, reaching the polling booth alone with her walking stick in the scorching heat. She set an example for the people who will cast their votes in the upcoming phases of the elections.

The election saw a three-way contest between the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). The voting process began at 7 am in 102 parliamentary constituencies across 21 states and continued until 6 pm.

In 2019, the DMK-led coalition secured 39 of the 40 seats across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. An estimated 6.23 crore voters from Tamil Nadu are set to cast their votes in the upcoming elections, where an astounding 950 candidates are vying for power. The result will be declared on June 4.
