Before elections, the Indian tax department has suspended opposition parties bank account

The Indian Congress Party, the country’s biggest opposition party, has revealed that the tax department suspended its bank account a few weeks before to the announcement of the national election. When the Income Tax Department was looking into income tax filings for the 2018–19 financial year, it required payment of two billion 10 million Bharu, or two million 53 million US dollars. Ajay Maken, a spokesman for the Congress, asserted that the party did not take any action to pay the fines and that this action was done in an attempt to discredit the party ahead of the elections. The administration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been under fire from rights organizations and critics for allegedly utilizing law enforcement to target political opponents.
